Community

The Lowpoint-Washburn C.U.S.D. #21 is a small rural district located in
Central Illinois, approximately 30 miles northwest of Peoria,
Illinois. The community encompasses three small villages:
LaRose, Lowpoint and Washburn in addition to large expanses of farmland in
both Marshall and Woodford counties.
Parents are encouraged to be active
and involved throughout the District. An open door
policy to the community and a commitment to involve the
public in education is a priority of the District. We
desire parents, family members, and the community to
visit our schools, attend administrators’ coffee hour,
attend school board meetings, volunteer to read to
students in elementary classes, talk with the teachers,
administrators, and board members, and share information
with students and staff by volunteering to speak in
classes.
School District
The Lowpoint-Washburn School District is divided into
four schools: Elementary
School (K-3), Middle School (4-6), Junior High School
(7-8), and High School (9-12). There are two
buildings that house the four
schools. The Elementary School building holds
classes for Kindergarten through Third
Grade. It also holds classes for Bright
Beginnings Special Education Pre-school,
a Pre-Kindergarten class and has a
library/media center and administrative
offices. The 4-12 building holds classes
for the Middle School, Junior High
School, and the High School. The District
office, administrative offices, and
library/media center are also located at
this site.
The District currently
serves 430 students and has a proud
tradition of providing a practical,
quality education to children for the
past 114 years. Our service area covers
102 square miles with large stretches of
distance between the three small
villages, and the corporate and family
farms that dot the countryside. The
enrollment of the district declined by
200 students since 1952 when the Lowpoint
and Washburn districts first
consolidated; the district reconsolidated
when LaRose became a part of us in 1960 .
The student loss reflects the decline of
population in the counties over the past
forty six years as the result of small
businesses closing and/or relocating.
We
believe that students should:
- Know how to learn, communicate
effectively, and think creatively
and analytically;
- Set goals, strive to do their
best, develop good character,
respect themselves and the rights
of others;
- Use technology and prepare to
adjust to the needs of our
changing society;
- Practice good citizenship.
Our school
district's goals:
1. To continuously
improve on a positive learning
environment.
2. To strengthen the
partnership between school and
parents/community.
3. To maintain
Lowpoint-Washburn as an effective
and efficient district.
4. To implement a
fully integrated and
interdisciplinary curriculum that
develops the knowledge and skills
of all students.
5. To maintain
fiscal stability.
6. To embrace and
utilize technology and media
resources.
7. To employ and
retain excellent certified and
non-certified staff.
Today's students are tomorrow's future . . .
. . . make it bright for them . . .
